Why you were banned from adsense

Google Adsense

Saw a good post today on digg which lists 5 reasons you were probably banned from adsense.

All of them involve clicking your own ads which is no suprise.

Some of the comments list extra reasons such as modifing the code and using a similar ad network on the same page.

Adsense API introduced

Google Adsense

What can you do with it?

- Create an AdSense account
- Manage an AdSense account
- Create and modify AdSense for content ad units and link units, AdSense for search boxes, and Referrals
- View detailed reports to monitor performance and earnings

You must apply to actually use the API and you will need quite a bit of page views before they will let you use it so don’t think you can start coding it all straight away. It will be interesting to see what tools, if any, come out of this API.

Text Link Ads – Calculate the value of a link from your site

Google Adsense, Text Link Ads, Tools, Web Sites, YPN

Link Worth Calculator – Text Link Ads

After reading about this tool on ProBlogger I decided to try it out. This is a good tool to calculate how much a link from your site is worth. I had a go and it returned some good results. I had a go with www.bbc.co.uk and it returned some amusing comments “More than you can afford” :D

The calculator takes the following into account;

Traffic of your website
Link popularity of your website
Theme of your website
Number of links to be sold
Sitewide or single page placement
Location on the page

Source

The image of “the area on your site where you will place the text link ads” looks remarkable similar to the adsense “heat” image. It looks like most companies agree that directly above/below/next to is the place to get best results from ads.

YPN vs Adsense on banning TOS violators

Google Adsense, YPN

Modded Up: Winning The Fight

A good post comparing the reaction of the adsense team vs the yahoo team after he reported a total of 13 sites. 5 of the sites reported to Adsense were banned and 0 out of 8 of YPN have not been punished. Yahoo may still be relativly new but they should take a really strong stance against TOS violations.

I think his last paragraph sums it up well;

Get your shit together Yahoo, you’re trying to compete with Google and they’re thrashing you not just in market but in network integrity and traffic quality. Until you actually give a fuck about publishers abusing their accounts you have no chance against AdSense.

There are quite alot of posts in his Blog about YPN and reporting clicks, I would check it out http://www.moddedup.com/

New Refferal Products

Google Adsense

The adsense team have now added some more Google products that you can promote instead of the previous Adwords and Firefox. The new referrals include Picasa and the Google pack, making you $1 and $2 respectively. Maybe this is good for some tech website owners? Maybe making a page about recommended software with a Google Pack advert in there? Who knows?

Adsense Fraud Worryingly High

Google Adsense

Just searching for the words “click the google ads” brings up around 970 results. Yes, some of these may be people like me writing about the amount of websites commiting adsense fraud. Some sites offering to give a gmail/msn invite if anyone clicks 10-20 times. Another site asks users to click the ads to keep the membership fee down. It even seems the boy scouts are wanting their users to click the google ads. Now, some of these sites are still running Google Ads even though they are actively asking users to click the ads. I know the Adsense team try very hard to catch these publishers however there are still people running adsense after being indexed on Google saying “click the google ads”.

What other ways are there to reduce adsense fraud?
